English Language Development
Beginning, Emerging, and Bridging
Designated ELD focuses on specific instructional strategies for English Language Learners to develop their critical thinking, language skills, knowledge, and abilities needed for content learning in their mainstream classrooms. The English Language Development (ELD) Department supports students by providing them opportunities to engage in student-to-student academic discourse at three different proficiency levels: Emerging, Expanding, or Bridging. Students practice choral reading, pair-share speaking activities, build complex sentences, and utilize academic vocabulary words when communicating. Students participate in interactive learning activities, design projects based on curriculum topics, and explore in-depth concepts.
