Inclusion Programs
An inclusion program indicates that the student’s primary placement is in the general education classroom at his or her home school. The student may receive specialized support and services.
Resource Specialist Programs
The Resource Specialist Program (RSP) serves students who can benefit from remaining in the general education class for a majority of a school day. Students may receive specialized instruction from the Resource Specialist within a general education class.
Special Day Class Programs
A student who requires specialized instruction for more than half of the school day may attend a Special Day Class (SDC). Special Day Classes serve students on a continuum that includes Mild/Moderate (M/M), and Moderate/Severe (M/S). SDC environments are designed to meet the specific needs of these students.
Other Services
The Individual Education Program (IEP) Team may determine that related services may be provided to the student in his or her placement. These services may include but are not limited to speech & language therapy, adapted physical education (APE), counseling, occupational therapy (OT), and home/hospital instruction.
These services are provided at most school sites. Please contact the AUSD Special Education office for more information.
Transportation
If the Individual Education Program (IEP) Team determines that home-to-school transportation is needed in order for the child to benefit from his or her education, then it will be provided.
