About Our Temporary Campus
Introduction
In the summer of 2024, contractors for Alameda Unified School District built a temporary campus for Wood Middle School because the permanent campus - on Grand Street - was being demolished and then completely rebuilt.
The temporary campus was built at the site of the former Lum Elementary School, which was closed in 2017 due to reports from a number of seismologists and structural engineers showing that in the event of the earthquake, the Lum buildings' foundations would not be adequate to withstand the highly liquifiable soil on the site.
The temporary campus is named "The Lodge" because the Wood mascot is a beaver and beavers live in lodges. It is comprised of 17 temporary classrooms, includes a fully functioning office and media center, general and special education classrooms, and a blacktop. Students will continue to take music, art, and PE in the old MPR building on the permanent campus.
